Our Mentors

I am a Graduate Technical Assistant at the Center for Cyber and AI and a Masters student pursuing a M.S. in Information Systems and Technology, Cybersecurity Concentration. I've completed research through the INSuRE course, partnering with the NSA and NIST to compare satellite networks to cybersecurity frameworks and test entropy for random number generators. I've participated in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, with my main focus being policy & SIEM management. Similarly, I've participated in the National Cyber League twice and I look forward to participating again for this upcoming semester!

I'm also the co-host of the Beyond the Horizon podcast, where we talk about how AI affects differing industries and how important it is to acclimate yourself to it before it's too late. Beyond this, I hold both the CompTIA Security+ and CySA+ and am actively pursuing the Microsoft SC-200 certification and hope to pursue a career in Cybersecurity Analysis / Vulnerability Research!

I am an undergrad student pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems and Technology, Cybersecurity Concentration, and I am a part of the new Scholarship for Service cohort. I've participated in NCAE Cyber Games, where I focused on all around help where needed, and I've participated in National Cyber League twice. I look forward to participating in NCL and the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition this upcoming semester.

I also help with the current Networking and the new Operational Technology projects going on in CISO. I try to discover and learn different facets of cybersecurity to learn to apply it to my sector of cybersecurity that I'm interested in. I currently hold the CCNA and am actively pursuing the CompTIA Security+ and Anthropic's Claude Certified Architect, and I hope to pursue a career in Network Engineering!

I am an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems and Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. I have participated in several cybersecurity competitions, including the NCAE Cyber Games, Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC), National Cyber League (NCL), and Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC). Through these experiences, I have gained hands-on experience in areas such as network defense, penetration testing, system administration, and securing services in competitive environments.

Outside of competitions, I enjoy helping others learn cybersecurity and sharing the knowledge I've gained through my own experiences. I have also helped teach web exploitation and enjoy introducing students to both offensive and defensive security concepts. I currently hold the CompTIA Security+ and Google Cloud Security certifications and am actively pursuing the CompTIA Network+ certification.

As an AIM mentor, I hope to help others strengthen their technical skills, get involved in cybersecurity competitions, and find opportunities that will help them succeed in the field. My long-term goal is to pursue a career in cybersecurity with a focus on both offensive and defensive security.

Mike is a graduate student at CSUSB pursuing a degree in National Cybersecurity Studies. He holds a B.S. in Information Systems and Technology with a Cybersecurity concentration, and an A.S. in Computer Information Systems from Victor Valley College. He currently works as a Systems Engineer II at Esri, with a background spanning network security, system administration, and infrastructure automation, including building Proxmox-based lab environments, deploying Kubernetes (k3s) clusters, and automating infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible. Mike holds RHCSA, SecurityX (CASP+), Security+, and ITF+ certifications, and has mentored 70+ students in cybersecurity fundamentals and hands-on lab training.

Educational Background: I am currently an undergrad at CSUSB! I am currently working towards my B.S. in Information Systems and Technology with a focus in Cyber, and I am very honored to hold the role of CIO for CISO this year. I also hold an A.S. in Computer Networking and Security Management from Mount San Antonio College, where I was the cyber club president for a year.

Technical Background: I have been heavily Linux focused since freshman year of high school, and in the past 2 1/2 years I have been able to put my home grown skills to use professionally. I am very big into creating fully virtualized infrastructure with Proxmox, hardware hacking, building out servers, and researching anything that I find interesting. I love creating capture the flags, and for the past two years I have volunteered my time with SkillsUSA helping out with their CA state cyber competition. This last year I was given the honor of being the competition lead, where I got to build out all the infrastructure for 50+ competitors, and I was very lucky to have the CISO alongside me for challenges!

Professional Background: I currently work at Merlin Cyber based out of Virginia, where I am a Cybersecurity Labs Engineering Intern. I design and build out custom security, software, cloud, and hardware solutions for federal government customers (three-letter agencies I'm not at liberty to name). I'm also currently in the process of building out a CTF that will be hosted for our fed clients in September! Before that I worked at Mount San Antonio College as a project specialist where I deployed and maintained a number of FOG (Linux network imaging) servers across the SCE campus. I have also done consulting work, and have spent loads of time in tech support roles at multiple different small shops.

Educational Background: I am currently an undergraduate student at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems and Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. I plan to graduate in Fall 2027. I am actively involved in CSUSB's cybersecurity community, serving as Secretary for Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) and as an Orange Team Lead supporting cybersecurity projects and activities.

Research Background: My interests are centered around cybersecurity, information technology, and the intersection of technology and society. Through my coursework, cybersecurity projects, and involvement at CSUSB, I have developed experience with researching technical topics, analyzing information, documenting findings, and presenting ideas to others. I enjoy exploring new areas of technology and turning research into projects and learning opportunities.

I have also been involved in cybersecurity research and project-based activities through CSUSB, including penetration testing exercises, cybersecurity labs, and collaborative projects. I am particularly interested in helping students learn how to approach research, find reliable resources, develop research questions, and turn their interests into meaningful projects.

Career Background: My professional background includes customer-facing, technical, and research-oriented roles. I have experience in clinical research, technical and administrative environments, and customer service, which have helped me develop strong communication, organization, documentation, and problem-solving skills.

As a career mentor, I want to help students navigate the process of figuring out what they want to do, finding opportunities, building their resumes and professional experience, and preparing for internships, research opportunities, and future careers. I especially enjoy helping students who may not know where to start or feel like they don't have enough experience yet.

As a Research/Career Mentor, my goal is to help mentees explore their interests, develop confidence in their abilities, find opportunities that align with their goals, and build a path toward their academic and professional future.

Educational Background: I'm currently pursuing my B.S. in Information Systems & Technology with a concentration in Cyber Security at CSUSB, building on an A.S. in Computer Information Science from Victor Valley College. I currently serve as Vice President of CISO and Treasurer of both WiCyS and AIM, where I also mentor. I hope to pursue a career in operational technology security!

Technical Background: My focus is Operational Technology (OT) and ICS security: the systems that run water treatment plants, power grids, and other critical infrastructure sectors. I work hands-on with PLCs, OpenPLC, and Modbus, and I'm especially interested in how insecure-by-design industrial protocols can be exploited to manipulate real-world physical processes, and how to detect and defend against that. I also compete regularly, having competed in the National Cyber League twice and NCAE Cyber Games, where I focused on running, configuring, and hardening a PostgreSQL database.

Professional Background: I recently completed an internship as a SCADA, ICS, & Cybersecurity Intern at Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority, where I assessed ICS/SCADA infrastructure, configured zero-trust microsegmentation across OT network segments, and built out RADIUS and CA-based authentication for secure access control. I'm currently a High Road Transfer Student Assistant at the CSUSB Center for Cyber and AI, and I taught OT cybersecurity engineering, including ICS systems and Modbus attack/defense using a water treatment plant simulation, to high schoolers through the WITHCyber Camp.

Educational Background: I am pursuing my bachelor's in Information Systems and Technology with a focus in Cyber, expected to graduate Spring 2027. I am currently WiCyS President for this academic school year. I am very excited to be a mentor and I really want students to know about all the different things you can do in cyber!

Technical Background: I love everything about Cyber. My main focus currently is Cyber Forensics as well as Vulnerability Analyst. I have done previous WITH Camps teaching basic Linux skills, networking, and different types of work roles, as well as doing projects on my own and competing in competitions.

Professional Background: I currently work at the Center for Cyber and AI here at CSUSB. I assist in doing outreach for the Center, which includes lots of tabling and lab tours. I have also worked heavily with K-12 students, teaching them about Linux terminal basics and the different work roles in Cyber.

I am an undergraduate student pursuing a B.S. in Information Systems and Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. I have competed in national-level cybersecurity competitions, including the NCAE Cyber Games and the National Cyber League (NCL), where I was voted MVP of my NCAE team. These experiences have strengthened my skills in offensive security, particularly in Linux environments, malware analysis, and reverse engineering.

I previously served as a mentor in the Cyber Mentorship Program (CMP), where I helped students build foundational and intermediate skills in cybersecurity. As a mentor, I focus on general Linux skills, malware research, and reverse engineering, guiding learners through hands-on labs, CTF-style challenges, and real-world tooling. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into approachable steps and helping others grow confidence in offensive security.

My long-term goal is to build a career in offensive security with a focus on malware analysis and reverse engineering, contributing to threat intelligence, detection evasion research, and advanced adversary emulation. Through mentoring, I hope to help others develop the technical depth and mindset needed to succeed in competitions, internships, and careers in offensive cybersecurity.
